Cigar Sizes

Cigars come in different lengths and thicknesses, from thick gauge, as much as an inch in diameter, to thin gauge, a slender 1/2 inch. To arrive at an understanding of a cigar diameter divide the ring size by 64, thus a ring size of 64 divided by 64 would be 1 inch in diameter or 32 divided by 64 would be a half inch diameter.

What gauge should I purchase? Well obviously personal preference is the major criteria, however as a rule of thumb, if your draw is hearty a wider gauge cigar is recommended. A more slender cigar will present with a harsh flavour, as the extra oxygen will cause your cigar to smoulder at a higher temperature. The result will be a lesser appreciation of the nuances of flavour and aroma.
